We will meet at Murphy Idaho at 7:00 am. (exact location of the meeting area will be sent prior) At the meeting area, we will go over the orientation paperwork, rental car forms, and familiarization with the controls of the Can-Am X3 Side x Side. Once familiarized with the operation of the vehicle, a driving test will be performed.
9:30 am drivers meeting and depart on our expedition!!
Our expedition embarks from Murphy, progressing along the historic Murphy to Silver City stagecoach route towards Silver City. The road undulates with gentle curves and hills, providing a manageable introduction, especially for newcomers to Side x Side driving. This leg serves as a warm-up for drivers to acquaint themselves with the vehicle before we venture westward into elevated terrain.
Departing the stagecoach trail, we advance towards Tiddie Springs, encountering an aged, dilapidated cabin – our initial pit-stop for refreshments, beverages, and a quick rest break. Resuming our journey, we come upon the first technical challenge, characterized by rock outcroppings that invigorate the senses. With capable X3 vehicles and expert guidance, these obstacles are navigable. Our path continues from Tiddie Springs to New York Summit via Silver City Road, subsequently leading us to Slaughterhouse Gulch, culminating in our arrival at Silver City.
Within Silver City, we dedicate time to explore the plethora of captivating historical structures. Notably, an antiquated hotel beckons with delectable pies and hamburgers, offering a welcome sustenance break and restroom facilities. Once our fill of Silver City's attractions is sated, we resume our journey, ascending War Eagle Mountain. At its peak, weather permitting, a panoramic vista of the Snake River valley unfurls before us – a breathtaking spectacle spanning from Oregon to Bennett Mountain.
Descend from War Eagle Mountain into Oro Fino Gulch, traversing Gerdie Gulch as we continue southward, paralleling the Owhyee mountains. Our route then meanders through the desert expanse for several miles, punctuated by an intersection leading us through pinion-covered landscapes into higher elevations, offering both technical challenges and awe-inspiring panoramas of the Boise Valley.
Subsequently, we navigate Bachman Grade Rd., arriving at the destination known as Triangle – our campsite for the night. Each pair or individual is assigned a tent. Once settled, cold drinks are on hand, followed by dinner around the campfire as we reflect upon the day's exploits, an event fondly dubbed "Park and Ponder." With the sun's descent, we retire to our tents, enjoying a restful night's sleep.
At 7:00 am, coffee will be ready, but there is no hurry to get up too early. At 8:15, breakfast will be ready, and we will dine. At 8:30, preparations start for the return journey. Cars are readied, fueled, and loaded with gear for the trip back to Murphy. We break camp at 9:00.
We will travel a bit on the Bachman Grade gravel road, leading us to our turn northward through the desert toward Sinker Creek. Although the pace may quicken here, safety remains paramount.
Sinker Creek is a tight and twisty trail coursing through the creek itself. In the high canyon walls, Sinker Creek presents a challenge as we ford it multiple times – approximately eight or nine crossings. We may get a little wet! Emerging from Sinker Creek canyon, we continue the northern trajectory, ultimately returning to Murphy via the Stagecoach Road – signifying the culmination of our exhilarating expedition.
